Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender (GLBT) Committee

At the 2003 AFL Convention, delegates voted to establish a Working Group to deal with issues surrounding the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered communities. This Working Group was transformed into a full AFL Standing Committee at the 2005 AFL Convention.

The role of the GLBT Committee is to encourage active involvement of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender persons in union activities and other activities affecting them, to promote, audit and organize educational programs concerning Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender persons in the workplace, home and community, and to foster working class culture amongst Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender persons and their allies by initiating meetings, forums, workshops, conferences, conventions, demonstrations, mass action and education course where appropriate.
