Klein's "Third Way" Starts to Take Shape

Request for Proposals Suggests Plan is to Allow Private Insurance for Health Services

In its latest maneouvre to implement its so-called "Third Way" for health care, the Klein government has put out a call to insurance companies to design a model for private insurance of certain health services, including prescriptions, long term care and "non-emergency" health services.

The insurance company who wins the contract will be expected to put together a model for offering insurance coverage for a wide range of services and functions, not limited to those services not covered or partially covered by Medicare.

The AFL believes this is the next step in the government's plan to privatize portions of the health system.
