Nancy Furlong
Secretary Treasurer, Alberta Federation of Labour
Nancy Furlong has been active in the trade union movement for over 30 years. She started as a Union Steward for the newly organized AUPE in 1976 and progressed to holding office in her local. From there she joined the staff of AUPE holding full-time positions in a variety of areas including member representation at all levels. In 1993 she became the Executive Director of AUPE, a position she held until 1998. She next devoted her full-time energies to working with the Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA) at the University of Alberta. It was there that she became a member of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1158, represented her coworkers in a variety of capacities while working full time on behalf of the NASA members.
The latest challenge she has taken on is holding the elected position of Secretary Treasurer for the Alberta Federation of Labour. With a skill set honed from years of representing members from negotiation to grievance arbitration, including union management of staff and resources, Nancy is making her mark in making the Federation an effective, organized and effective force for change in this Province.
Nancy is the single mother of one son and continues to be a member of CUPE 1158.
